Brembo S.p.A. Mexico Plant Project
--Total Cooling Capacity: 368 HP · Green Factory Solution for a World-Class Automotive Brake Manufacturer
Project Background
Brembo S.p.A., founded in 1961 and headquartered in Italy, is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance braking systems. As a core supplier to top automotive brands including Ferrari, Porsche, and Tesla, Brembo maintains an extensive global manufacturing network.
Brembo operates multiple production facilities in Mexico, located in Puebla, Apodaca, and Escobedo. The Escobedo plant serves as Brembo's core manufacturing hub in North America, specializing in the production of aluminum calipers for premium vehicles. In 2023, Brembo completed a major expansion of this facility, adding 30,000 square meters (322,917 sq. ft.) of space, doubling production capacity, and creating over 500 new jobs. The total project investment reached approximately USD 207 million.
Project Challenges
As a world-class automotive components supplier, Brembo imposes stringent requirements on its production environment:
- Precision manufacturing demands strict environmental control: The production of aluminum calipers involves multiple processes including casting, machining, and assembly. Temperature and humidity fluctuations can affect machining precision and product yield.
- Diverse requirements across functional zones: The facility encompasses production workshops, office areas, quality inspection zones, and storage areas - each with different air conditioning needs. Production areas require stable cooling, office areas need comfort cooling, and some zones even require heating during winter.
- High energy consumption and operational cost pressure: Nuevo León in northern Mexico has a semi-arid climate with long, hot summers, requiring the air conditioning system to operate at high load year-round. Minimizing energy consumption while maintaining the production environment was a key concern.
- Global leader's brand standards: As a leader in the braking systems industry, Brembo holds its suppliers to the highest standards of equipment quality, technological sophistication, reliability, and after-sales service.
Solution
Hisense provided the Hi-FLEXi S Series Heat Recovery air conditioning solution for the Brembo Mexico plant, with a total cooling capacity of 368 HP. Featuring innovative heat recovery technology, the system enables simultaneous cooling and heating within a single refrigerant circuit, recovering waste heat generated during cooling operation for use in heating or domestic hot water production - achieving cascaded energy utilization.
01.Heat Recovery Technology for Significantly Reduced Energy Consumption
The Hi-FLEXi S Series Heat Recovery unit enables simultaneous cooling and heating operation within a single system. While production areas require cooling, the heat extracted from the high-temperature, high-pressure refrigerant gas discharged by the compressor can be recovered and used for office heating or process water preheating. This technology substantially reduces energy consumption from electric heating or gas boilers, significantly lowering the plant's overall operational energy costs.

02
All-in-One Solution for Diverse Zone Requirements
The heat recovery system supports simultaneous cooling and heating in different zones within the same building. Production workshops receive stable cooling while office areas enjoy comfortable heating - all from a single system. This eliminates the need for separate cooling and heating equipment, reducing equipment investment and mechanical room footprint.
03
Patented 360° Refrigerant Cooling Technology for Electronics Protection
The units utilize patented 360° fitted refrigerant cooling technology, effectively cooling the entire electrical control box to ensure the inverter module maintains efficient and reliable operation even in northern Mexico's high-temperature environment.
04
High Connection Ratio All-DC Inverter with Wide Operating Range for Extreme Climates
Featuring all-DC inverter energy-saving technology, the units deliver significantly improved energy efficiency. The system offers exceptional wide-range operation capability, performing reliably in extreme temperatures from -30°C to 55°C - effectively addressing Nuevo León's year-round climate challenges, from summer heat to winter chill.
05
Full DC Inverter IP55-Rated Electrical Control Box for Industrial Environments
The units feature an IP55-rated electrical control box, effectively blocking dust, oil mist, and other industrial contaminants from penetrating, ensuring stable operation even in harsh production environments such as casting and machining areas.
Project Value
The Brembo Mexico plant project represents a landmark reference for Hisense HVAC in the global automotive components manufacturing sector. The successful implementation of this project not only provides efficient and reliable climate control for Brembo's USD 207 million North American manufacturing hub but also fully validates the Hi-FLEXi S Series Heat Recovery's outstanding performance and energy-saving value in large-scale industrial manufacturing applications.
Through the application of heat recovery technology, the project achieves cascaded energy utilization and circular economy principles, effectively reducing the plant's operational energy consumption and carbon footprint while supporting Brembo's sustainability commitments. This project will serve as a showcase reference for Hisense in the global automotive manufacturing industry, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations with more world-class automotive OEMs and components suppliers.
cturing production.
