A General Hospital HVAC Project

--Air-Cooled Heat Pump + VRF + Precision AHU · Integrated Climate Control for Healthcare Facilities

Project Overview

This newly built hospital has a total floor area of approximately 83,000 m² , encompassing multiple buildings including a medical complex, administration building, infectious disease ward, parking structure, dormitory, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, and waste disposal facility. The medical complex, integrating outpatient, medical technology, and inpatient services, features 6 floors above ground and 2 below, with a building height of 28.8m, serving as the core functional building of the campus.

HVAC System Design

Given the complex functionality of healthcare facilities and the diverse temperature control requirements across different zones, the project adopts zoned differentiated HVAC design that balances comfort, reliability, and energy efficiency:

01

Cooling & Heating Sources

The outpatient, medical technology, and inpatient buildings are served by a central HVAC system with 10 air-cooled heat pump units, each with a cooling capacity of 829kW and heating capacity of 826kW. Due to site constraints, the units are divided into two groups (5 units each) located on the east and west sides of the campus, each with 5 circulating water pumps with mutual backup. The water system features closed-loop constant-pressure stabilization design with an operating pressure of 0.75MPa. The infectious disease ward and administration building are served by VRF systems with dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), flexibly matching different functional requirements.

03

Air Distribution Systems

Large atriums and auditoriums feature low-velocity full air systems with a maximum adjustable outdoor air ratio of no less than 50%, maximizing free cooling from outdoor air during shoulder seasons to significantly reduce energy consumption. General office and patient room areas are served by fan coil units + DOAS, with fresh air supplied horizontally on each floor and exhaust air discharged through vertical shafts to the roof, ensuring proper airflow organization and precise temperature/humidity control.

04

Precision Environment Control

Critical medical equipment rooms - including MRV, nuclear medicine scanning, CT, and DR rooms - are highly sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. The project deploys precision constant temperature & humidity air conditioning systems to ensure stable operating environments for medical equipment, safeguarding diagnostic accuracy and equipment lifespan. Ultrasound, color Doppler, and transcranial Doppler examination rooms are served by VRF + DOAS, while duty rooms and the fire control room are equipped with split-type air conditioners - achieving a refined "one-zone, one-strategy" air conditioning approach.

05

Ventilation & Air Purification

The waste disposal room features an independent exhaust system with 12 air changes per hour, equipped with nano-photocatalytic deodorization devices, with exhaust air discharged at roof level - ensuring odor-free air quality throughout the campus. The kitchen is equipped with both general ventilation (also serving as emergency ventilation, 12 ACH) and local exhaust (40 ACH), with makeup air at 80% of exhaust volume - ensuring a safe and comfortable kitchen working environment.

Project Value

This project fully demonstrates Hisense's comprehensive solution capabilities in the healthcare HVAC sector. Through the integrated application of air-cooled heat pump central systems, VRF distributed systems, precision constant temperature & humidity units, and full air systems, the project delivers differentiated, refined, and intelligent environmental control for each functional zone - creating reliable environmental conditions for patient care, medical staff workflow, and stable operation of large medical equipment.
