A Bank Headquarters Data Center in Hangzhou

HVAC System Configuration
The data center is equipped with a dual-cool source air conditioning system , featuring water-cooled chillers as the primary cooling source and air-cooled chillers as the backup - two independent cooling sources providing mutual redundancy to ensure uninterrupted year-round operation. The system incorporates plate heat exchangers to maximize free cooling during transition seasons and winter, significantly reducing compressor runtime. A thermal energy storage tank is deployed to enable synergy between free cooling and mechanical cooling, while also providing chilled water reserve for continuous cooling in the event of a power outage. The terminal cooling is served by air-cooled precision air conditioning units , delivering stable temperature and humidity control throughout the year to ensure the security and reliability of financial data operations. A DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) system is deployed for 24/7 real-time monitoring and alerting - covering temperature, humidity, leak detection, power status, and UPS operation - enabling unattended operation and intelligent O&M management.
Operation Strategy
An intelligent group control strategy optimizes energy performance throughout the year:
- Summer Mode: Water-cooled chillers operate as the primary cooling source at high efficiency; air-cooled chillers remain on standby.
- Transition Season Mode: When outdoor conditions permit, plate heat exchangers are prioritized for free cooling, with compressors either shut down or operating at reduced load.
- Winter Mode: The entire cooling load is handled by plate heat exchangers; chillers are completely shut down.
- Thermal Storage Tank: Charges during off-peak nighttime hours and discharges during peak daytime hours to reduce operating costs, while also ensuring uninterrupted cooling for the data center during power outages.

Energy Performance
Through the synergistic operation of dual-cool source redundancy, free cooling, thermal energy storage, and intelligent group control - the system is designed to achieve a PUE in the range of 1.18–1.22 , meeting the Grade 1 energy efficiency standard (PUE ≤ 1.20) as defined in GB 40879-2021 "The minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and energy efficiency grades for data centers" . The system operates stably, delivering efficient and reliable temperature control for the bank's year-round, uninterrupted data center operations.
